Due to its geopolitical position, Iran serves as a bridge in the North-South and East-West axis. For this reason, besides the power it has acquired by having rich oil and natural gas energy resources, it is also important as a transit country in the transportation of energy. Because that Caspian Basin and Central Asia, which do not have a coast to the open seas to carry their energy resources to the world markets, Iran has a very advantageous geographical position in these regions. Also Iran is located between two major oil and natural gas resources, such as the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Basin. For all these reasons, the foreign policy and therefore energy policy displayed by Iran is of great importance in terms of energy security of the world and the region. The purpose of this study is to discuss Iran’s energy policies for its oil and natural gas resources by taking its geopolitical position into consideration.
