Information technology usage impacts on construction projects' success

Information technology (IT) plays an important role for improving business processes and has significant effects on project time, cost and quality in the construction industry. Effective use of IT may increase construction companies' market share in the competitive business environment. In this study, the impacts of IT usage on project success in construction projects are examined. Semi-structured interviews were carried out among 31 construction professionals in Turkish construction companies. The interviews took place over a 3-month period between April and June 2009, and a survey questionnaire was administered during face-to-face interviews. The specific objectives of this study are to find out the current use of IT in these firms and effects of IT usage on project success. Based on the results, IT usage has more impacts on the success of the projects in the design phase
