Producing cordierite from local magnesium sources
Özet
Cordierite ceramics were produced by using local magnesium sources. Mixtures were sintered at different temperatures to examine formation of cordierite. a-cordierite was formed as a major phase over 1150degreesC. High bulk density and nearly zero apparent porosity were achieved at 1200degreesC by using Mg-rich local clay as a magnesium source. Thermal expansion coefficient of this sample was 2.63x10(-6)/K, in the temperature range 50-800degreesC. Produced cordierite body is believed to have a potential in refractory applications where high density and thermal shock resistance are required.
