Biodiesel production from castor oil by transesterification reaction and investigation of the fuel properties
Özet
Biodiesel production from castor oil was performed by alcoholysis reaction with methyl alcohols. Among the alkali catalysts, KOH gave the best yield and conversion in microwave heated reaction. The optimum conditions for KOH catalyzed reaction were realized. The fuel properties of biodiesel were then determined according to the standard test methods. Some of the properties were higher than the limits of the standards. To satisfy the fuel specifications, biodiesel/diesel blends were prepared in different ratios. Properties of these fuel showed an improvement on those properties. Castor oil biodiesel was a good additive to diesel.
