3D CFD model of a V-notch weir
Özet
CFD-Computational Fluid Dynamics models provide comprehensive information about the fluid flow around water structures. A CFD solution allows obtaining almost all of the flow parameters for any desired time interval and location in the flow domain. The accuracy of these models is enhanced when they are supported and verified by experimental studies. However, it is not always possible to measure all of the parameters by physical experiments due to complex flow conditions and limited measurement techniques. In some cases, experience and fluids mechanics knowledge together with verification via gross flow parameters when the turbulence resolving scales are not significant may be sufficient and even superior compared to empirical design tools. In this study, flow characteristics of a V-notch weir is modeled by CFD. Experimental verification is also provided and the results are discussed within the context of design procedure and performance of the specific weir type that is being investigated.
