Emission Benefits of Continuous Descent Approach
Özet
The approach phase often has the most fuel savings potential among the other phases such as takeoff, climbout, cruise and ground operations. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to investigate being close to the ideal fuel consumption by implementing the Continuous Descent Approach (CDA) procedures. In this study, the higher level flight benefits thanks to the CDA were obtained in terms of emission. Including five entry points, the Istanbul Terminal Area (TMA) was used to model the conventional approach and the CDA procedures. The real speed and the real altitude limitations of these entry points were conserved. In conclusion, for 13757, more than 40 kg fuel and 2 min time savings per flight lead 140 kg and 55 kg reduction on the emissions of CO2 and H2O, respectively.
