Investigation and Aplication of Masking Decorations on Ceramic Surfaces
Abstract
In early Neolithic era (7500-6500 BC) the first examples of ceramics, which are used for functional purposes, are found. It is thought that diversity of ceramic forms, which has the charging and developing in historical development are affected by the trade between different communities. At the end of Neolithic era (6500-5000 BC) and towards the beginning of Chalcolithic era (5000-4000 BC), it seems that ceramic forms were decorated with simple geometric motifs. In Anatolia, ceramic forms, which are decorated with many different designs, are found in Hactlar district. During this period, because of improving the use age of ceramic colorful slip glazes and natural colors were added to enrich the visual value besides the functionality. It seems that the most important factor of decorating on surface of ceramics, which were produced in that period, is coming into prominence of color and form items. In produced ceramics, parallel to the development of technology visual aesthetic and the diversity of expression has increased, by using different decoration techniques. In these techniques, resist decoration technique. The first examples of masking decorations, which are take places in those techniques, were seen in the 18.th century. In this study, it is aimed to investigation and proposing new suggestions of masking decorations on ceramic surfaces.
