In this study, the use of slate wastes as a glaze raw material was evaluated. In the first stage, chemical (XRF), mineralogical (XRD) and thermal microscopy analyses, grain size distribution, and color and melting characteristics of slate waste at 1160 degrees C were determined. In the second stage the waste was used with ulexite in a binary glaze system and in the final stage the waste was used in a ratio ranging between 10 % and 60 % in the stoneware glaze recipes. Glazed samples were fired at 1160 degrees C. It has been observed that glossy and matte glazed surfaces changing from honey and buff to reddish brown color has been formed. It was also observed that more effective glaze surfaces are formed with colorants such as CoO and Cr2O3 and through different glazing techniques.en_US
