?-blocking and hysteresis in the EEG

Abstract

We investigated the phenomenon of ?-blocking by using a smoothly changing illumination as the visual stimulus and showed that there is no increase of ß-waves during ?-blocking. We were unable to see any form of ?-ß competition as claimed by some authors. Secondly, considering the supply voltage of illumination as a control parameter, we made the observation that there is an indication of hysteresis in the formation and decay of ?-waves.
