İstanbul'da 1829 Nüfus Sayımı ve Bazı Mahallelerin Müslüman Nüfusu Üzerine Bir İnceleme

Abstract

Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nda modern genel bir nüfus sayımı 1830'da II. Mahmut devrinde yapıldı. Bu ilk modern genel sayıma dair çeşitli monografiler yayınlanmıştır. Bütün bu çalışmalarda imparatorlukta yapılan çağdaş veya modern anlamda "ilk genel nüfus sayımı" olarak 1830 sayımı gösterilir. Bu doğru yaklaşım olmakla beraber, bu bildirimizde görüleceği üzere, ele aldığımız "1829 İstanbul Sayımı" ülke çapında ve genel olmamakla beraber, "Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'ndaki çağdaş anlamda "İlk Nüfus Sayımı" unvanını kazanmaktadır. Bu ilk sayıma dair Tophane Kasabası'nın 8 mahallesini içeren nüfus sayım defteri tanıtılıp, 1829 ve 1830 yılı nüfusları tespit edilerek, değerlendirilmiştir.

In the Ottoman Empire, first modern general census was made during the time of Mahmut II, in 1830. Various monographies about the first modern general census have been published. All of these monographies point that the census of 1830's the first general modern census in the Empire. This opinion can be assumed as a general fact. However, our article tries to show that the "Istanbul Census of 1829" is the first modern census in the Ottoman Empire, in spite of the fact that this is not a general census. In this concept, we evaluated the register, including the data of 8 quarters of Tophane Town and determined the censuses of 1829 and 1830.
